Le Meridien and The Westin Dubai Mina Seyahi Beach Resorts hosted the Mina Cleaning Day on 19th May 2009. The cleaning day was part of the Green Campaign Program initiated by the Environmental & Safety Committee towards Global Environmental Awareness.

Colourful spectacle of jet skis at Mina Seyahi - The first heat of the Dubai Jet-Ski races held Saturday at Mina Seyahi saw over 75 jet ski riders and their machines dotting the beach-front ready to participate in an exhilarating sport of speed and skill.

Organised by the Dubai International Marine Club under the UAE Marine Sports Federation, the jet ski races in Dubai have seen tremendous support and interest not only from residents in the UAE but also from the GCC nations as well as from Japan.

About Foresight: Foresight’s is fighting blindness by helping find a cure for retinal diseases that make people go blind, such as Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) by supporting locally based and international research. We also aim to improve the lives of people who are visually impaired and blind in the UAE through many community initiatives. Ramadan Do’s and Don’ts: The local authorities become especially sensitive to social faux pas throughout Ramadan. Below are a few guidelines to keep you from offending anyone:

1. Don’t eat or drink in public before sunset. This includes consuming anything in your car / taxi and eating chewing gum.
2. Don’t smoke in public.
3. Don’t wear revealing clothes throughout Ramadan.
4. Don’t buy alcohol for a Muslim. While this rule applies all year round, penalties for breaking this rule are higher during Ramadan.
5. When at “iftar” (breaking the fast after sunset), don’t begin eating before anyone else. The communal prayer will signify the beginning of “iftar”.
6. Don’t try to coerce a Muslim into breaking his or her fast.
7. Don’t show public displays of affection.
8. Don’t raise the volume on your stereo or TV during prayer times.
9. Don’t swear in public.
10. Don’t stare or point at Emirati women. This is a general rule, but again,locals are especially sensitive to prying eyes during Ramadan.

The first 10k Abras Run was hosted at the Mina Seyahi on Friday, 23rd May. The event was extremely successful and attracted 160 plus participants to run the new course, which was designed specifically for the race. Participants started at the breakwater and were led on a beautiful run around the marina and through the grounds of the complex.

The 3rd MINA MILE Open Water Swimming Race 2008 will be held on Friday March 21st 2008 from 9am to 1pm in front of Le Meridien Mina Seyahi Beach Resort and Marina, Dubai. The race is open to all residents in the UAE aged 13 and above. The event will offer races between 1600m, 800m individuals (Male and Female) and 200m relay for difference age groups. Entrance fee is 60Dhs per person and entrance forms are available at outlets of Sand and Sun Sport, and Club Mina of Le Meridien Mina Seyahi.

The premier appearance of the fabulous Krystal Dinner Show is drawing to close with the finale show announced for February 29th, after a very successful and extended run. A video from the Maktoum Sailing Trophy Dubai (to give you a preview of things to come this year!). The prestigious Maktoum Sailing Trophy 2008 is a Regatta of 10 Inshore Races and one offshore passage race for individual yachts from the Thursday 21st February 2008 to Friday 29th February 2008. The Organising Authority is the UAE Marine Sports Federation through the Mina Seyahi Dubai (a division of DIMC). The race will take place at the new Mina Seyahi Dubai (MSD), situated in the City of Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

January 30th – 48 young gentlemen and ladies from Jebel Ali Primary school visited Le Meridien Mina Seyahi Beach Resort & Marina (Mina Seyahi Complex Dubai) to add to their knowledge on Boats & Transportation. They visited the Dhow restaurant, (a moored, traditional Arabic boat), and were shown how the boat operates. The group then proceeded to the boats & yachts moored at the Dubai Marina (DIMC), to see the more modern front of boat industry development. The children were given a class on ‘Safety on board’ and were shown how to use a life jacket. The program ended with the activities on Barasti Beach and of course, ice-cream! The end of October saw the Le Meridien Mina Seyahi and its associates brainstorm, discuss and act on health and safety issues at the resort complex. The Annual Health and Safety week was a great success in proactively identifying and combating possible hazards and risks that guests and/or associates may encounter. The week's activities were conducted in conjunction with all levels of the hotel and included poster, photo gallery and quiz competitions.

The 17th edition of the UAE Desert Challenge promises a spectacular climax to the international cross country rally calendar later this month, with a mighty line-up of cars, bikes and trucks assembling from the Middle East and overseas. Getting under way with a super special spectator stage in Dubai on 28th October, the UAE Desert Challenge www.uaedesertchallenge.com is held under the patronage of H.H.Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The event is the final round of both the FIA Cross Country Rally World Cup for cars and trucks, and the FIM Cross Country Rallies World Championship for bikes. The Dubai Desert Challenge is also sponsored by the Dubai International Marine Club and Le Meridien Mina Seyahi Beach Resort & Marina.

The first heat of the traditional dhow sailing race in the 22 feet category race to be held Saturday 22nd September, 2007 marks the start of the DIMC watersports season. The much awaited season commences after a break of almost four months during the summer. Though the weather hasn’t much cooled off the sailors will be under stress due to the fast during the Holy Month of Ramadan. This is not in any way going to deter the sailors as they take gret pride in their traditional races. The last season witnessed a spectacular display of skill and tactic. Dhows sailed gloriously on the serene waters of the Arabian Sea along the Jumeirah coast, with courses set by Saeed Hareb, Managing Director, DIMC organiser of a season full of exhilarating watersports.

After a lull of four months over the summer season, the Dubai International Marine Club (DIMC) gets set for a brand new season of watersports activities. The first of the season kicks off with the 22 feet traditional dhow sailing races scheduled for September 22nd, 2007. The DIMC race calendar is a buzz with activity back to back starting September thru to June 2008 with races from traditional dhow sailing to the traditional Class III powerboat, rowing to modern sailing and the much awaited WPPA Class One World Powerboat Championship races under the aegis of the World Professional Powerboating Association that was formed on the UAE’s National Day, December 2nd 2006.

We celebrated the launch of our new, very cool, Barasti Beach with its air conditioned bar & dance floor. And had a great turn out. As one of the most laid back, stunning beach settings in Dubai, we wanted to  introduce  summer spot,  so with cool cream couches and divans, Barasti  is comfortable & inviting and the place for you to eat, drink and dance! DJ Martin Metcalf and his brand new show “Saturday Sanctuary” on Dubai 92. Had its premiere live broadcast, and guests enjoyed an Arabian Barbecue and chilled margaritas as the sun set.
